You want to help others? - Part II

You ask yourself how you can help change the world to make it a better place but you don't know where to start or you are unsure about the results?

Of course, you can't change the world all by yourself, but sometimes, all it needs is just a little help to make a difference.

''Act as if what you do makes a difference.
It does.''
William James

First, decide which cause(s) you want to help/support. I suggest to take something that you truly care about as the interest will always be present, instead of supporting/helping a cause just to do it.

There is so many issues that you can choose from; it can be social, political, economic or environmental. Whether you decide to support/help an issue present in your country, in an other country or globally, never forget that the most important thing is to believe in what you support. (I know, I may sound repetitive, but it is true).

Here is a partial list of issues that can help you redirect your research:

1-Economic Issues
  • Arbitrage
  • Government Policy
  • Natural Disaster
  • Prohibition
  • Taxation
  • and more...
2-Environmental Issues
  • Climate change
  • Conservation
  • Environmental Health
  • Intensive farming
  • Nuclear issues
  • Overpopulation
  • Pollution
  • Toxins
  • and more...

3-Political Issues
  • Animal rights
  • Child Support
  • Civil rights
  • Education
  • Firearms
  • Health care
  • Homeland security
  • Illegal Immigrants
  • Political Corruption
  • Race relations
  • War & Peace
  • and many more...
4-Social Issues
  • Abortion
  • Age of consent
  • Capital punishment
  • Civil rights
  • Crime
  • Disability Rights
  • Discrimination
  • Drug laws
  • Feminism
  • Human Trafficking
  • Incest
  • Justice
  • and many more...

Now what can I do to support/help the cause I've chosen?

1-Be a Volunteer: Volunteering is not only working in a soup kitchen or visit the old folk's home; with a little bit of imagination, you can do almost anything.  However, some volunteering requires a certain degree of expertise.

2-Start a petition, donate money, support a charity, etc.! Get passionate! Get involved!

3-Start a business: Become a social entrepreneur with a company that donates a portion of your profits to charity. Hire people who struggled in life and triumphed through adversity, instead of the ''easy life'' person who just graduated from a prestigious university.

4-Get vocal: Make your voice heard; hold rallies, protest, write letters, write articles in newspapers, blog about it, start a forum, etc.

5-Donate: Blood, food, time...whatever you can!

6-Get your entourage involved: By simply telling your friends and family the difference you're making or the steps you're taking to help your cause or charity, you might inspire them to do the same. With each new seed of influence planted in a person's head, the more likely that person is to one day take action themselves.

Organize fundraisers and invite your entourage to participate.  If you can't raise money, add your voice to a campaign already started and ask your family and friends to sign up too.

7-Start a non-profit: Although it cannot be easy, you will be really proud of yourself when everything will be set-up.

8-Save and recycle and drive less and bike more!

9-Sponsor a child or adopt one!

10-Dream:Dream of a better world then go out there and create it. Dreams become reality with enough work and determination.
